WASHINGTON -- About 466,000 above-ground pool ladders have been recalled, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Officials said the plastic steps of the Intex, Easy Set and Sand N Sun pool ladders can be assembled backward, making it easy for them to break during use.
The importer, Intex Recreation Corp., of Long Beach, Calif., has received 172 reports of steps breaking during use and 127 reports of injuries, according to a news release. The recall includes A-frame pool ladders measuring 42 inches, 48 inches and 52 inches and sold with above-ground pools. Each leg of the recalled ladder has two pieces joined together with a metal sleeve, the news release said.
The ladders, manufactured in China, were sold at Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club and Target stores nationwide between February 2006 and February 2007. Pools with 52-inch ladders were also sold during the same time at other retailers nationwide, the news release said.
People who bought the ladders should contact Intex at 800-549-8829 for information about how to obtain a free replacement ladder. They can also visit www.intexcorp.com
