Pool Volley Ball

This is an extremely fun game for all ages. I will take you you through the process to get this game up and running in a very short period of time.

The first and foremost is getting the right kind of net that actually fits across your pool. Once you have the net it is now that we mount it. First we want to know the distance between the deck and the ground under the deck. The reason for this is that the dowelling we will use for holding the net has to have a length of six feet above the deck and add the measurement you got between the deck and the ground and add a foot for good measure and you have the length of closet rod dowelling you will need. Now while you are at the lumber yard. The dowelling you will need is 1 5/8 inch you will also need some pvc or abs pipe that is 1 3/4 inch inside diameter and a drill bit that is the same size as the outside diameter of the pipe.

Now drill a hole in the deck and insert the the pipe you purchased. Now don't worry about the pipe sticking out of the deck because we will take care of that now, get the dowelling you purchased and insert it in the pipe, now you can put a level on it to level it and drive the pipe into the ground until flush with the top of the deck. Do that to both sides and we can drill a 1/4 inch hole at least 1 inch from the top of the dowelling and another hole 3 feet from the top. Feed the mounting string of the net into the holes of the dowelling and tie them to the dowel. If the net needs some slack tightened up just twist the dowel until the net is tight.

Now, the rules have to be declared before the game so that nobody can complain. The rules are pretty simple; the amount of hits per side is 3 (three) with two players per side, the third touch has to go over the net. If you play with three per side you have 4 touches per side. Out of bounds is dependant on the type of pool and railing you have on your deck. If you have 3 feet of deck around the pool with railing you could include the deck and railing as fair game anything over the railing is out of bounds. Those of you with lots of deck and no railing could count the top of the deck as out of bounds, but these rules are all upon your discretion so use these only as guidelines.

The scoring is also at your discretion you can use beach volley ball rules in that the serving team is the only one to score while the other team plays to win the serve. You can play to 15 or 21 again your decision before the game.
